   Two days. Two huge girls golf tournament victories. A day after winning its first Catholic High School League Bishop Division championship, Division 3 No. 1 ranked Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood won the 2021 Division 1 Oakland County Championship on Wednesday, Sept. 29, at Twin Lakes Golf Club in Oakland.

   Cranbrook won the title, shooting 319. Division 2 No. 1-ranked South Lyon was second at 328. Division 1 No. 3-ranked Rochester Adams finished third at 330. Division 1 No. 9-ranked Troy Athens was fourth at 331. Division 1 No. 5-ranked Rochester took fifth at 337.

   Cranbrook senior Natasha Samsonov shot 72 to finish third and lead the Cranes. Senior Ashley Cong finished at 79. Sophomore Mackenzie Behnke and senior Katherine Li both finished at 84.

 

 

   Troy Athens junior Olivia Hemmila shot 65 to earn medalist honors.

   “We’ve really had a nice season. Winning Oakland County is a big deal for us,” Cranbrook head coach John Minnich told reporters. “We are a D3 school competing against really good D1 and D2 schools, and performing well. This is the eighth win for these girls this year. To win Oakland County, it is a big step for us.”

   Cranbrook also won the Pontiac Country Club tournament (Aug. 28), Lapeer Lightning Summer Tune-up (Aug. 24), Flint Powers Invitational (Aug. 30), North Star tournament (Sept. 2), and the Stoneycroft Hills tournament (Sept. 20).

   Cranbrook competes in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3, Region 18 tournament at Pontiac Country Club on Wednesday, Oct. 6.

    The MHSAA finals are Oct. 15-16. The Division 3 tournament is at Michigan State University’s Forest Akers West.
